The Adam Rotation: When Time Dances
It cannot work. But it does. And how. Currently, the first pre-selections for the GPHG 2025 are taking place. More precisely, the first round ended on the second weekend of August. This year, a huge number of watches are up for selection. But when it comes to surprises, it’s the independents… This watch surprised me the most.

180 Parts for a Dream
The technical specifications read like science fiction: a cycloidal gear, used for the first time in a wristwatch. 180 components working together to make the dial complete a rotation in eight hours. Two independent movements, connected by a differential.
This is “AHCI watchmaking.” This is… it fascinates me.
A Pioneer from Prague
Luděk Seryn is making history: he is the first Czech to become a member of the AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants). That fact alone shows that we are not dealing with an ordinary watchmaker here. The Adam Rotation builds on his Karel Rotation, but goes even further—8mm thinner, without bridges, with a peripheral rotor.
Looking at his other works, you can see the progression: from the first Karel Rotation to the Infinity and now to this Adam. Each watch a new concept, each an experiment pushing the boundaries of mechanics.
Only five pieces will be made. One costs €219,000. That sounds like a lot, but considering that each component is individually developed and manufactured, the price is more than justified. With this level of complexity and such a small series, it’s actually a fair deal.
Setting with a Key
What fascinates me most: you set the watch with a small key. Like an old pocket watch. Turning to the right in position one for minutes forward, in position two for minutes backward. Turning left for the hours.
It is wonderfully analog. So deliberate. In a time when everything is automatically synchronized, here you must consciously set the time.
Some watches exist to make you dream.
The Adam Rotation reminds me why I love watches: because behind every tick is a human who wanted to create something that never existed before. Someone willing to invest years to bring a vision to life.
Independent Spirit
This is the spirit of the independents. No marketing meetings, no sales forecasts. Just the question: What if the dial could rotate? And then you just do it. Even if it’s almost impossible. Even if only five people in the world will understand why you did it.
Maybe that is true luxury: not what everyone wants, but what only one can make.
The Adam Rotation is more than a watch. It is proof that there are still people who dream. And who make their dreams come true.
