Watches are passion.
I have described here the background, how it comes (for me) that watches inspire me and why I started this blog. It is my passion. For quite a time, I’ve been less concerned with the blog, due to athing that locked us all down.
Bit I still was concerned with watches. More than three years ago now, I had grown ideas to make watches myself and started to develop approaches.
I already had a concept worth pursuing. But: I realized that I was not getting anywhere, because I had no drive to execute the idea. Why?
I wasn’t getting anywhere, until…
It’s the right questions in life that get you ahead – at points where you’re stuck.
My friend Eva Leube is such a great person who asks the right questions: “Why do you want to do this?” she asked and that’s when everything clicked into place.
I told her about my passion for watches, about taking apart alarm clocks as a kid to understand the mechanics and building and fixing things. That continues to this day. (Fixing Vespas is like knitting to me, or meditation.) And I started collecting clocks around 2008, and for two reasons.
I miss(ed) the country of my roots. Austria, with its lakes, mountains and water. And I missed sailing, too. What THAT has to do with watches?
The watches and the sailing, and the longing combined in the Memosail Regatta Timer watch. Isn´t it lovely!? To me it was a symbol of what is most important to me next to my family. A life on and with water!
Maybe you understand this, if you are also a “water person”:
Water gives rest and relaxation but also fun with children and water sports connects all that. When diving or sailing you are in the elements in three-dimensional space and are at the mercy of nature. You read wind and waves, navigate, pay attention to sails or are on a voyage of discovery of new things under water. You forget everything earthly and the everyday life around you. Time flies.
This state is called “flow state” in psychology. Athletes also use the word more often lately.
You see, a watch can be more than a timepiece. It can also be that it reminds you of something (and I don’t mean the Outlook calendar in a dead smartwatch).
Now it’s getting philosophical
I realized I was bending on a project that was supposed to come from my soul.
What I learned was this: “Fliesse! Go through life with ease and elegance, follow the path of least resistance, follow YOUR flow!
Accept everything that life brings you. Be ready to move without fear or reservation.
Bruce Lee had summed it up this way:
“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” (Bruce Lee, 1940 – 1973) Be Water – Be Water – Bruce Lee Video
The water, the circumnavigation of inner and outer resistances, the passion, the longing – everything flows together to FLOW Watches. Go with your flow!
